Next in Fashion Analysis

Next in Fashion — Netflix Series Review

Introduction & Plot Summary

I had recently watched Next in Fashion, which is a Netflix competition series that was hosted by Tan France and Gigi Hadid. This show brings fashion designers from different backgrounds and fashion styles that’s unique to them, to compete for a cash prize and the chance to take their brand to the next level. In each episode  new challenges are thrown at them with a different theme, forcing them to get creative under pressure — whether they’re making red carpet looks, streetwear, or something completely outside of their comfort zones or creating something new that they haven’t done before. In this post, I would like to share the things that had stood out to me about the show, especially how fashion plays such a huge role beyond just clothes.

(Below is the link in seeing some of the fashion designs that the fashion designers had created. I had also like hearing what the judges had to say for each design that was displayed during the runway)

Next in Fashion’s Winning Look

Description

One thing that I had really liked about Next in Fashion is how you see fashion being used as a tool for storytelling. The designs aren’t just about looking good, but you can see parts of each designer’s background, emotions, and personal style show up in their work. One episode that really stuck with me was the “Met Gala” challenge. The designers had to create these big, dramatic, high-fashion looks inspired by the event, and you could tell how much love and creativity went into every piece. It wasn’t just about making something pretty — it was about making you feel something when you saw it.

What makes it even better is how the show was filmed. The way they capture the details — the fabric textures, the stitching, the models who wore the finish products and how the clothes had moved on the runway — made me appreciate it all so much more. As someone who cares about self-expression, I loved seeing how the designers used fashion to communicate their own personal stories. It reminded me that fashion is way more than just trends — it can show who you are without you even having to speak.

Analysis

While watching Next in Fashion, I was thinking about how this show connects to the idea of Symbolic Interactionism, which is basically how we use symbols, like fashion, to express who we are. A lot of the these designers had used their own cultural backgrounds, emotions, and even their personal struggles to create pieces that tells stories without using words. This made every runway to feel deeper and become more meaningful.

Another thing that I had noticed is how the show reflects Cultural Capital. As we get to know every designer that was selected to be apart of the show, not every designer had came in with big industry connections, but they still had incredible talent, skill, and creativity. In a way, it was like watching them grow, improve, build more connections, and pushing them through the competition had made me to think about having knowledge and doing something that someone love and is passionate about can open doors, even within the fashion industry which can be difficult to get into.

Conclusion

Overall, I had really enjoyed watching Next in Fashion. It was fun to watch, inspiring, and full of creativity. I think the fashion designers that were selected had made a difference to the show as well. If anyone is into fashion, art, or just love watching people pour their heart into what they do, I think you’ll like it too. For me, it was a reminder that fashion isn’t just about “looking good”, but how it’s a form of art, a way to tell your story, and honestly, it made me want to be a little bolder with my own style or want to start having my own unique personal fashion style. This show had also made me to want to know more about fashion. The show, Next in Fashion, is definitely worth watching.

Thanks for reading.
